Dust refers to solid particles suspended in the air. Industrial production easily generates large amounts of dust, such as in metallurgical, mechanical, building materials, light industry, and power industries. Dust is often categorized by size into Total Suspended Particulates (TSP), Inhalable Particulate Matter (PM10), and Fine Particulate Matter (PM2.5). Particles in ambient air with an aerodynamic equivalent diameter of less than or equal to 2.5m are usually called fine particles, or PM2.5. PM10 refers to particles with an aerodynamic equivalent diameter of less than or equal to 10m. PM2.5 fine particles have a small diameter, stay suspended in the atmosphere for a long time, travel long distances, and usually contain large amounts of toxic and harmful substances, thus having a greater impact on human health.

In China, especially in industrially developed cities, air quality has become a serious issue. To ensure clean and safe indoor air, the dust removal function of air conditioners has become indispensable. Besides adding air filters to air conditioners, it is more important to incorporate dust sensors, such as those from LUFTMY, which can simultaneously monitor PM2.5 and PM10 dust. They can be used to monitor dust concentration in indoor and outdoor air at any time. Based on the data from the dust sensor, the air conditioner can refresh indoor air when needed and control the fan's intake volume to achieve clean indoor air as well as energy-saving and environmental protection goals. The application of dust sensors in residential air conditioners will also become essential.
Although dust sensors are a powerful aid that allows us to consciously stay away from periods of severe dust pollution, this is only a temporary fix. In the long run, when pollution is everywhere, we will have nowhere to hide. Therefore, the fundamental solution lies in environmental governance.
For the application of dust sensors in air conditioners, LUFTMY recommends the PM2.5 dust sensor module LD11. Overview of LUFTMY laser optical dust sensor LD11:

The LUFTMY large-range laser dust concentration sensor LD11 is a high-precision particulate concentration sensor based on Laser Mie Scattering theory. It can continuously collect and calculate the number of suspended particles of different sizes in the air per unit volume (i.e., particle concentration distribution), then convert them into mass concentration and output them via a universal digital interface. The LUFTMY optical dust concentration sensor LD11 features small size, high precision, strong anti-interference capability, low power consumption, long life, zero false alarm rate, and short response time. This dust content sensor can be embedded in various instruments or environmental improvement equipment related to suspended particulate concentrations, such as air conditioners and air detection equipment, providing timely and accurate concentration data.
