Air purifiers have become a popular healthy home appliance in recent years, with the primary function of purifying pollutants and improving indoor air quality. Inside an air purifier, a vital component is the dust sensor, which is responsible for detecting dust concentration and automatically adjusting the working mode.
Currently, there are two main types of dust sensors used in air purifiers: infrared dust sensors and laser dust sensors.
The working principle of an infrared dust sensor is based on the scattering characteristics of infrared light. When infrared light hits dust particles in the air, the particles scatter the light; the intensity of this scattered light is proportional to the dust concentration. The infrared dust sensor calculates concentration by detecting this intensity.
The working principle of a laser dust sensor utilizes the scattering characteristics of laser light. When a laser beam hits dust particles, it produces scattering. The intensity of the scattered light is proportional to the particle concentration. The laser dust sensor detects this scattered light to calculate the dust concentration in the air.
Infrared dust sensors offer advantages such as small size, low power consumption, and low cost, but their accuracy is relatively low, leading to certain errors when measuring PM2.5 concentrations. Conversely, laser dust sensors boast high precision and fast response speeds, though they are larger, consume more power, and are more expensive.
Currently, more and more air purifiers are adopting laser dust sensors. This is because they provide higher measurement accuracy, better reflecting PM2.5 concentrations and offering users more precise air quality data.
Furthermore, as technology advances, the size, power consumption, and cost of laser dust sensors are decreasing, further promoting their application in air purifiers.
When choosing an air purifier, consumers should select a product that fits their needs and budget. If you have high requirements for air quality, it is recommended to choose a product equipped with a laser dust sensor.
