How to Choose the PM2.5 Sensor in Air Purifiers

How to choose the PM2.5 sensor in an air purifier

The PM2.5 sensor is an important component of an air purifier. Its function is to monitor the indoor PM2.5 concentration and provide a basis for the air purifier to operate. Therefore, choosing the right PM2.5 sensor is crucial to the effectiveness of the air purifier.

When selecting a model, the following factors need to be considered:

● Measurement Principle: PM2.5 sensors mainly have three measurement principles: laser method, infrared method, and circuit method. The laser method has the advantages of high measurement accuracy and wide measurement range, but the price is higher; the infrared method has the advantages of low cost, small size, and low power consumption, but the measurement accuracy is not as good as the laser method; the circuit method has the advantages of the lowest cost and the most convenient use, but the measurement accuracy and range are poor.

● Measurement Range: The measurement range of PM2.5 sensors is generally 0.1~10μm, where 0.1~0.3μm is PM0.1, 0.3~1μm is PM1, and 0.1~1μm is PM2.5. Air purifiers mainly need to monitor PM2.5 concentration, so a sensor with a measurement range of 0.1~1μm is sufficient.

● Sensitivity: Sensitivity refers to the coefficient by which the sensor output signal is proportional to the concentration of the measured substance. The higher the sensitivity, the higher the measurement accuracy of the sensor.

● Stability: Stability refers to the ability of the sensor to maintain stable measured values during long-term use. A sensor with better stability can better ensure the accuracy of measurement results.

● Repeatability: Repeatability refers to the consistency between measured values obtained by measuring the same concentration multiple times under the same conditions. A sensor with better repeatability can better ensure the reliability of measurement results.

Based on the above factors, air purifier PM2.5 sensors can be divided into the following categories:

● High precision, high stability, high repeatability, high price: Suitable for occasions with high requirements for air quality, such as hospitals, schools, kindergartens, etc.

● Medium precision, medium stability, medium repeatability, medium price: Suitable for general homes and offices.

● Low precision, low stability, low repeatability, low price: Suitable for general shopping malls, supermarkets, etc.

The specific type of sensor to choose needs to be comprehensively considered based on your actual needs and budget.

How to choose the PM2.5 sensor in an air purifier

Here are some suggestions for selection:

● If you have high requirements for air quality, it is recommended to choose a sensor with high precision, high stability, and high repeatability.

● If you have general requirements for air quality, it is recommended to choose a sensor with medium precision, medium stability, and medium repeatability.

● If you do not have high requirements for air quality, it is recommended to choose a sensor with low precision, low stability, and low repeatability.

When purchasing a PM2.5 sensor, you also need to pay attention to the following points:

● Choose sensors produced by regular manufacturers to ensure product quality and after-sales service.

● Read the sensor manual carefully to understand the parameters and usage methods of the sensor.

● Before using the sensor, it should be calibrated to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.

The air purifier PM2.5 sensor is an important part of an air purifier. When selecting a model, various factors need to be comprehensively considered to meet actual needs.
