If the goal is simply a rough understanding of dust levels in an indoor environment, a general Dust Sensor will suffice. However, if precise monitoring of specific minute Particulate Matter is required, especially concerning the impact of PM2.5 on public health, a specialized PM2.5 Sensor is necessary.

However, the choice between the two is not mutually exclusive. In some designs, it is possible to integrate both dust and PM2.5 Sensors into the same device, thereby covering a more comprehensive range of Air Quality Monitoring. This combined solution allows for both precise PM2.5 data and relevant information regarding other particle size ranges.
